HAVELOCK INSTITUTE HOLD PADDY'S MARKET
The Havelock North Women 's Institute meeting for May took the form of a Paddy's Market, where brisk business was done, to the considerable benefit of the Institute funds. Mrs Chapman-Taylor presided over a fair attendance of members and visitors. The meeting opened with the Institute song and aspiration, followed by 'various items of business. These being concluded, the National Anthem was sung, and all thoughts turned to the great events taking place that day in England. The hall looked gay with its decorations of red, white and blue, while the gardening circle had arranged the platform with bowls of chrysanthemums and autumn leaves. Rosettes of coronation colours, the work of Mrs G. Cook, were worn by the committee and the stall-holders. The stalls comprised produce (Mrs Buck), cakes (Mrs Goldfinch), jumble (Mrs Heenan), books (Mrs Toulmin), white elepkant (Mrs Ritckie). The large cake, made by Mrs Crompton, and cleverly iced to represent the Crown resting on. a cushion, went to Mrs F. L. Bone, and the tempting clinner from tlie produce hall, to Mrs Lowe. Tlie "best bloom from member's gardon,; was won by Mrs W„ Bridgnian. During the afternoon the singing circle rendered patriotic songs, and solos were sung by Mesdames Buck and Perrett. Mrs Meads was in charge of the afternoon tea, and the hostesses wore Mesdames Bridgman, Biggar, Leicester, Marven, McGracken, May, Powrie and iStratton,
