PROBATION GRANTED
Breaking and Entering at Puketitiri On a charge of breaking and entry James McMahon was found guilty in the Napier Supreme Court this mornmg with a strong recommendation for mercy. The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, placed accused on probation toi* 12 mom>hs and ordered him to pay the costs oi the prusecution. The charge arose through McMahon entering the home oi the b-taples at Puketiuri, while a party was on. While in the house he was accosted. by Wiiliam Ttenry Welsk, a man of 70, who gave evidence of being disturbecl and unding accused standing over an open chest of drawers. Mr E. J. W. Hallett pleaded that accused had no intention of committmg the crune but was under the infiuence of drink. His Honour held that McMahon knew enough to get iuto the house and to rausach it when lie got in. His acts suggested that he kuew what he was douig
