Stabbed Man's Story

DUNEDIN, This Day. "I am guilty of stabbing him, but 1 plead seit-defence. I did it on account of money," stated Jumsherablee when asked to plead jn the Polic© Court yesterday afternoon to a charge of wounding Jabibalee, the serang of the steamer Olive Bank, at Ravensbourne on April 9. The Magistrate declined to accept the plea, in the meantime remandmg accused in custody for a week to allow counsel to discuss the matter witfi him. Jabibalee, who was stabbed in the stomack, stated that he and accused were not on friendly terms. For so'me months accused would not obey his orders. On the morning of the stabbing when he told accused to go for breakfast, the latter said, "I don't want to talk to you. I told you to shut up." Witness moved towards tlie en-gine-room generator and. accused came from behind and stabbed him with a knife. Cross-examined, witness denied that he collected money from the men for getting their jobs, or that he had borrowed from accused, or that lie got three months pay each year from each man. He also denied striking or tlireatening accused.
