Takapau Faimers. At the monthly meeting of the Takapau branch of the Farmers'f Union there was a small attendanee. Mr. N. M. Waldm presided in the absence of the chairman, Mr. Tilley. Mr. Ma»on veteriuary suigeon, Woodville, gave aii address on "The Gare of Stock." The discourse was, perhaps, one of the mest usefcl and easily understood givo.i at the branch, Mr. Mason answered several questions in a very capable manner. The chairman thanked him for. coming so far and giving such an instructive address, Yoang Faiuiers' Club. The Takapau Young Farmers' Club held its monthly meeting in the Hall, Mr. Nelson presiding. Correspondenco was read regarding the Young Farmers' Educational -Conference, which is to be held at Palmerston North. Soiuo of the members have decided to attend. Mr. Thomas Taylor, headmaster of the Takapau Public School, gave an address on the principal features of New Zealand, its rocks and coverings, with special referenee to Hawke's Bay. At the close of the ddscourse Mr. Taylor was accorded a vote of thanks. Sheep Dog Trials. A meeting of the Takapau Sheep Dog Trial Club was held on Tuesday night, Mr. W. J. Smith presiding over a fair attendanee. Mr. F. de Stacpoole, who has taken a great interest in the club, has been .very fortunate in procuring many trophies, and another cup from the Tomoana Freezing Works, which will be ailocated for local and inadden event. A working bee was appointed to put the course in order and committees were elected to attend to the various duties during the trials. Mr. W. Cuthbertson was appointed to represent the club at the Centre meeting to be held at Wairoa. Mr. N. Tilley will represent the clnb at the annual meeting of the North Island Sheep Dog Trial Association. Porangahau Queen. Miss J. Ormond has been chosen to represent Porangahau in the queen carnival to be conducted with the object of raising funds for the Central Hawke's Bay Rugby Sub-Union. At the first meeting of Miss Ormond 's committee, Mr. A. W. Parsons was elected chairman, and Mr. R. Inglis, seeretary. It was decided to hold a football match at Porangahau on May 29, followed by a dance. Makotuku W.C.T.U. The monthly meeting of the Makotuku Woanen's Ckristian Tempe.rance Union was held at Mrs. J. W. Mildon's liouie, There was a good attendanee. One hew baby was received into the eradle ro'll. Tlie address to Conrention from the New Zealand president was read, and evoked much unterest. The June meeting is to be at Mrs. Yicar's home, in Towers street. Power Board Officers. Mr A. C. Russell was yesterday reelected chairman of the Central Hawke's Bay Electric Power Board for the twe'll'th successive year. Mr W. H. Rathbone Avas re-eleeted deputychairman. The Finance Committee, as follows, was re-elected : Messrs C. Pattison, A. C. Hoims, A. C- Russell, W. H. Rathbone and F. J. WitheroAV. The Works Committee was re-elected as follows, with tlie addition of Mr W. A, Chambers : Messrs A. C. Russell. F. J. Witherow and R. A. Fraser Street Lignting A reduction in tho cost of street lighting and town-liall charges are being sought hy the Waipawa Borough Council. At yesterday 's annual meeling, the Central Hawke's Bay Electric Power Board decided to consider the matter when attention is given to tho i coming year's estimates, • •
