(From Our Own Correspondent).

Porangahau Children Entertained

PORANGAHAU, Last Night. Thanks to the efforts of several Porangahau residents and of the school committee, the Coronation was celebrated in a manner such as to impress the minds of the school children with the historic importance of the day. A special service was conducted at the Anglican Church by the Rev. A. M. Niblock and in the morning a cextsmony was held at the school, where the children were assembled under the headmaster, Mr. A. G. Lancaster. After they had been addressed by the Rev. Mr. Niblock three commemorative trees were planted, two Canary Island date palms, one each for the King and Queen, and a Puku tree for the Princesses. After being served with refreshments each child was given a free pass for a matinee at the Porangahau pictures.. , Thanks are due to several local residents, including Mr. Gavin Black, chairman of the school committee, for the excellent arrangements made In the afternoon at the Porangahau golf links a Coronation tournsment was held, the principal event being a Canadian foursome. There was a large number of visitors, including many members of the Mangaorapa Club. The foursome competition was won by Miss Mavis Redward and Mr. Dixon.
