A Very Successful Year From Our Own Correspondent. PORANGAHAU, This Day. The annual general meeting of the Porangahau braneh of the N.ew Zealand Tteturnod Soldiers' Association attracted a very fair attendance of .roturned soldifrs in- the district. The president, Major O. F. Ohfton, was in the chair, and the secretary, Mr G. B. Lancaster was also present. From "the * tenor of the chairman's opening remarks it was clear that in the first year of its existence the association had enjoyed a very successful veag. its finances ishowing -» credit baiance of over £25, and the various activities which it had promoted, particularly the annual baH, having been outstandingly successful. _ ihe annual report, which was read to the meeting by the secretary, read as follows: — "The year has been a very successful one and the brancb has now become establiished on a firm footing. "Through the Association poppies were distributed prior to Anzao l)ay, and met with a teady sale, resulting in the sum of £4 14/- being added to the Waipukurau Association' s total. "A parade of about 50 returned soldiers was held on Anzae Day, and marched to the Porangahau Hall, where a service was cpnducted by the Rev. W. Cameron, and a very instructive address delivered by Mr J. 11Byrne. Our thanks are due to Mr Les Anderson, who came from Dannevirke to play "The Last Post" for the service. " "The $um of £16 10/5 was added to the association'® funds from the annual ball. "In January jthe committee met the Rev. W. Cameron, who was leaving the district and presented him with a wallet on behalf of the association in recognition of his efforts in organisingj the Anzac Day services. "During the year 27 financial members joined the association." The report and baiance sheet having been adopted, the following officebearers were elected: President, Major C- E. Clifton ; vice-president, Mr J. R. Byrne; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. G. Lancaster; committee, Messrs J. A. Jones, R. Parata, E. McLennan, T. Prussing, T. O'Connor, B. Grosvenor, J. S. Sommerville, H. W. Thompson and Major J. R. V. Sherston. It was deeided to hold- the annual dance on May 28 if arrangements can be made. On the suggestion of the chairman it was also deeided that it be an instruction to the incoming committee to atrange a picnic next summer for the children of the district. It was felt that this would be an expression in some measure of the appreciation which members felt for the support which residents in the district have always given to returned soldiers' organisations and functions. It was deeided to place on record members' appreciation of the work done during the year by tbe secretary. Mr Lancaster.
