Technieal O.B. Defeat Hastings H.S.O.B. EFFECTIVE BACK PLAY Superior vanguard work gave Technieal O.B. a 18-point victory over Hastings Old Boys on the Napier Nq. l ground. Thb game was unusually fast, both sets of backs handling ahd tackling well, , and keeping the game as open as , possible. The final score of. 24 points to six was a fair indication of.the merita of the two teams. Had it not been .for Hastings Old Boys' sound (lefence, Technieal 's i'orwatds Wouh\ have added many more points in the second spell than they did. The teams were: — Technieal O.B. — Rossiter, Dallimore, Herbert, Bliss, Peterson, Cushing, Riddell, W. Johnson, R. Johnson, Brooks, Bowman, Murray, Lopdell, Dalton, T. Cushing. Hastings H.S.O.B. — McCarthy, Lowe, Palmer, Apsey, H.olt, Patrick, Alexander, Ashman, Redward, Thompson, Shrimpton, Pord, Pargher, Rawiri, Avery. ' Past-moving back play on the part of both teams was a delight to watch.Hastings Old Boys took the Offensive ih the early stages, dnring which McCarthy, their custodian, caused a senSation by kicking a. penalty goal from three gards on the fiat side of half-way. Twenty minutes later he added three more penalty points, and then Technieal 's forwards began a siege ih which T. Cushing suffered a leg injury and had to retire, McAuslin replaced hixn. The attack bore fruit after ihree promising movements, McAuslin scoring after a forward scramble. W. Johnson's kick failed. Hastings Old Boys found Technieal 's offensive play hard to combat, and despite a nnited Eront by both forwards and backs, they could not prevent Dalton from breaking through just before half-time. He jeored under the posts, W. Johnson converting, enabling Technieal to rest at interval with an eight-six lead. They bettered their position three minutes after the fresh start, Peterson paving the way for Murray to seote after a forwsard attack. Johnsn failed to convert. Led by Dalton Technical'9 forwards played an outstanding game after the interval, but during frequent attacks they found Hastings Old Boys' defence unusually sound. The backs in piarticular handled the ball saf ely and effectively, while few fiaults could be found with their tackling. The scorers were: — Technieal O.B. — McAuslin (try), Dalton (two tries), Murray (try), W. Johnson (try and conversion), Herbert (tWo conversions), Bowman (try).
