INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS
Praise For The System That the intermediate school system, of which the Napier Intermediate School is a typical example, has fully justified its existence, was the tenor of a resolution adopted by a meeting of householders last evening, ' when a new school committee was elected. Several speakers praised the good work of the school, and speciai meution was made that the establishuient was a material factor in the develdpment of character. On the motion of Dr. W. D. FitzGerald, the meeting adopted a motion to the effect that "the»nyatem of intermediate education, of which the Napier Intermediate School is a typical example, has amply justihed itself by the resuits which have been obtained by the children attending the establishment ; and tbat this meeting sug-* gests to those coininunities proposing to establish the intermediate system that they co-operate in every way with educational authorities in their wish to further the scheme-'' ^ 'Once they attend the Intermediate School, the children seem to dcvelop tremendously, particularly in character," said Dr. FitzGerald. uBy this I do not wish to imply any criticism against the primary schools un to Standard 4." Afr vv. S. Kent geconded the motion, saying that he had been much impressed by what he had seen of the methods adopted by the Napier Intermediate School. Several others spoke in praise of the institution, giving the retiring headmasteiv Mr H. G. Johnston, most of the creait for the good nanie earned by the school.
