AUCKLAND, Last Night. Plans for an extension to the chiof post ofiice at Auckland which, wero announeed in 1935, following the purehase by the Post and Telegraph Department of part of tho old railway station site, have been further advanced this -week, wken Publie Works Department employees commenced bor-g ing to prepare the site plans and go. intd the question of foundations. The men are acting under instructions from the GoVernment architect, and an investigation is being made in connectiou with the building which it is proposed to construct at the back of the chief post office for the extension of postal facilities. Because of the site of the proposed building being on reclaimed land, which was later filled, special considera tion mnst be given to the type and depth of the foundations necessary to carry the heavy building. It is on this account • that a detailed inveetigation ,i* being mad*.
