Mr. D. Campbell Brown who has been on the staff jof the Central Hawke's Bay Press for the past i'ew months, left yesterday for Wellington. Ho intends taking a course in journalism at Victoria College. Mr. C. L. Mathie, of the Waipukurau railway statf, has reeeived notice of his transfer to Frankton Junction. Mr. Edward M. Marshall, B.A., Dip. Ed., of Manaia, has been appointed to tho position of first assistant at the Waipukurau District ' High School, filling the vacancy caused by Mr. L. R. Cutford's resignation. Mr. MarShall's appointinent was confirmed at a special meeting of the school committee last night. At a special meeting of the Waipukurau District High School Committee the chairman (Mr. C. F. Haycock) welcomed Mr. J. A. Ohambers to the committee. Ile has joined tho committee to fill tko vacancy caused by tho resignation of Mr. F. Frost, who has left to reside in Hastings. Mr A E. .Jull, Waipawa, is nn a visit to Wellington. Mr E. S. Lewis, Taniumu, left by the mail train yesterday for Wellington, wliere he will join the Ruahine en route to England on a trip.
