Commissions Set Up For Each Island NEW APPOINTMENTS

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Cabtaet to-day approved of tha personnel of the two permanent representation commissions which are- set up by the Government after every census to consider the readjustment of electoral boundaries on the basis of any redistribution of population. The new appotatments were announeed by the Mtaister at present ta charge of the Electoral; Department, Hon. H. G. R. Mason, as follows: — North Island Representation Commission: The Surveyor General (Mr. H. J. E. Walshe), Mr. Jolm Payne (Auckland), Mr. Arthur Rosser (Auckland), ithe Commissioner of Crown Lands at Auckland (Mr. K. M. Grahame), the Commissioner of Crown Lands for Tara-. :aaki district (Mr. A. F. Waters). South Island Representation Commis-j sion: Mr. John Rigg (Christchurch),; Mr. Harman Reeves (Dunedin), the] Commissioner of Crown Lands for Can-J terbury (Mr. N. C. Kensington), thev Commissioner of Crown Lands for Otago! (Mr. F. H. Waters), the Commissioner j of Crown Lands for Westland (Mr. B.1 Ktag). Messrs Payne, Rosser, Rigg and Har-. man Reeves are the unofficial membeni; of the Commissions. Under the Elec-? toral' Act, 1927, which makes provision; ' for their appointment it is stipnlated! that each of the Commissions is to con-r sist of five members, three members on each being the officials in the permanent' positions included ta the above appointments and ihe remaining two xaemberF being unofficial members nomtaated by the House of Bepresentatiyes. Of the new appotatments Mr. Harmn-n Reeves is the only survivtag unofficial. member of the Commissions appolhtedl after the last census. All the other appointments are to positions made vacant; by the deaths of former Commissioners. The Commissions sit together as a. joint Commissio'n to fix on a basis Jaid •down by the Act the number oi districts; for the North Island and South Island; respectively.
