CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW AT WAIPUKURAU

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Many beautiful blooms were on display at the annual Chrysanthemum Show, run under the auspices of the St. Andrew's Ladies' Guild, which was held in St. Andrew's Hall yesterday. Mrs. Innes Campbell, of Hastings, who acted as judge, stated that all the blooms were well up to standard, especially the white ones. The championship bloom, which was shown by Mr. D. J. McLeod, of Haumoana, a "William Turner," although not over large, was perfect in shape and colour. Many new varieties oi chrysanthemums were shown and these were greatly admired. Various stalls were run iii conjunction with the show, also an exhibition of pictures by local artists, which were of greait interest. The stall-holders were: — Fancy stall, Mesdames W. R. Hutchison and D. M. Wilson; sweet stall, Mesdames N. E. H. Hubbard and B. Seherf; cake stall, Mesdames J. A. Dixon and B. Mathesonj cut flowers, Mrs. T. Given; tea stall, Mesdames H. M. Kerr, Scherf, Robertson, Heasman, Faithful, A. Leitch. and Williamson. Great credit is due to Mr. A. F. Cook, secretary, the arrangements being excellent. The show was open again in the evening, when half-hour entertainments were given. The list of awards is as under: — Amateur Class. Six blooms, distinct, Mr. B. S. Pelling 1. J. Duubar 2. Special Prizes. Mr. A. W. Parson's challenge cup, for most points from class 1 — 25, was won by Mr. B. S. Pelling, who gained 25 points. Mr. D. J. MeLeod was second with 20 J points. Mrs. Leitch was first in the novice class, with . 13 points and Mrs. Thackeray was second, with 12$ points. Mr. D. J. MeLeod wpn Mr. G. E. Gideon's trophy for championship bloom.
