Pukahu Meeting The monthly meeting of the Pukahu Women 's 'Institute was held in the sehoolroom, Mrs. L. 'W. Goldfinch presiding over a large attendance of members. After singihg the Institute Ode and reciting the Creed, the president heartily welcoaed two new members, Mrs. Wakefield and Mrs. Manning, and also several visitors. • Mrs. H, Evans, treasurer, was presented with a pretty posy in autumn shades, in recognition of the excellent work she had done for the Institute since its inceptiolt. Much business was transacted, and the remits to the Federatiort CouUcil meeting were discussed. Mrs. Goldfinch and Miss Orchsrd (seeretary) were elected dele-s gates to the council meeting in Napier on April 28. It was decided to commence at 2 p.m. during the winter months. A collection of June produce, etc., was brought for the' H.B. Children's Home9. _ Miss Lang ".zon the potato competition with 451bs. of potatoes, Mrs. Kirkham was seeond with 351bs. ; As Mrs. Clark, the demonstrator, was unable to attend, Mrs. H, Green and Aliss L. Orchard very kindly filled the position at very short notice, and demonstrated pen-painting, which was followed with deep" interest by members, and much appreciated. Some beautif ul ■ pen-paintings wero shown, and both demonstrators weer accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
The competitions, judged by Mrs. .Livingstone and Mrs. McDonald (a visitor) resulted as follows: — ^Best bloom, Mrs. Kirkham 1, Mrs. C. Lean 2, Mrs. Cummins 3; plain scones, Mrs. C, Lean 1, Mrs. Green 2, Mrs. Wakefield 3; article made frorti one yard of Britway, Miss Orchard 1, with a beautif ul pen-painted duchess set, Mrs. W arfield 2, with ' baby rompers. honeyeombed, and _Mrs. Green 3, for a lovely black pen-painted cushion. • A suggestion was made by Mrs. ' Livingstone ' th'at members made articles for the Red Cr'oss during the winter inonths, and after discussion it was decided- to make wopl and cloth peggy square. quilts to be joined to- *. gethef at a sewing bee. - The competitions for May will be the best article from a sugar bag, and six pikelets. . ' The hostesses were Mrs. Goldfinch, Mrs. McCorkindale,' and Miss Hallet. The National Anthem concluded a most interesting meeting.
