WAIPUKURAU BOROUGH
Monthly Meeting of Council The monthly meeting of the Waipukurau Borough Council was held tonight, tho Mayor, 'Mr. I. W. N. Mackie presiding over Crs. G. J. Brommell, J. C. Windle, J. McCarthy and R. W. Carpenter. Tho clerk-engineer, Mr. H. B. Smart, was also present. The council carried a motion of coodolence with Cr. Martin in the death of his brother-in-law. Councillors expressed their wann appreciation of the expeditious manner in which the Waipawa County Council had acceded to the request of the council in improving the access road to the Lyndsay Bush scenic reserve. The question of giving extra street> cleaning service in Ruataniwha street as requested by the Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce was deferred until consideration of the estimates. The Hawke's Bay Education BoaTd advised that they had no objeetion to tho rounding-off of the corner of the school playground at the corner of St. Mary's road and Porangahau road and were prepared to donate the necessary groiind, provided the School Committee were agreeable and the improvement did not cost the board anything. The School Committee extended an invitation to the council to meet and diso.uss the matter with them. The engineer stated that he had suggested to the ehairman of the school committee the possibility of planning an ornamental entrance to the school at this point and the ehairman had promised to lay the matter before the school committee. The Waipukurau Town Band wrote thanking the council for its donation of £40. A motion by Cr. Brommell that the gates of the parks particularly *hose of Hunter Park should be painted before Coronation week was carried.
