Poppy Day at Waipawa. Saturday last was ' ' Poppy Day" in kaipawa, and a comprehensive canvass of the borough was mado for the sale of poppies for the local branch of the Keturned Soidiers' Association. A total of £16 was collected, the best return on reeord, and this amount will be considerably augmented when the saies from the country districts are received. Harvest Thanksgiving. The annual harvest thanksgiving service was held at Sl. James's Church, Otane, on Sunday eveuing. Tho vicar, the ltey. R. T. Hall, conducted tlie service, givin g an addresa appropriate to the occasion. Special hymns were oung. •Notw-ithstandiug tho adversc season experienced there was a good collection of fruit and vegetables, and these will be disfribuled to the Children 's Homes. Wairoa Bowling. During the week-end tlie final in the competition for the Hunter Browri Shield resulted in a win for the rink skipped by W. J. Clark by 25 to 10. The two riuks cngaged iu the final were: — O. J. Pinel, B. Halpin, E. J. Cook, W. J. Clark; L. W. Ebbitt, J. S. Wilsop, J. Osler jnr., Thco. Brown. Tho hlills Pairs was also decided, the final being won by G. MeLaohlan and E. Winter by 28 to {11, the ruuner-up , being W. Crarer and G. Stuart.
