FIRST MATCH AT WAIROA

(From Our Own Correspondent) WAIROA, Last Night. Beautiful weather and excellent playing conditions enticed a record number of players out for the first match of the season on the Wairoa links. Wairoa players are . pleased to learn that a new automatic draw devised by tbeir club captain, Mr R. M. Mowat. bas been adopted by the New Zealand Golf Council and is to be b'rougbt into use for the forthcoming New Zealand amateur and professional golf championships. Its adoption is also under consideration by tbe Australian Golf Union. Some months ago* Mr Mowat, who bas been studying tbe subject of automatic draws, subinitted his solution, which is based on purely mathematical principles, to the New Zealand Golf Council, which in turn passed it on to the Australian Golf Union. After going thoroughly into the matter the New Zealand Golf Council unanimouslv agreed that the new draw was a big improvement on the old method and decided to adopt it for general use in New Zealand. Mr Mo\yat is to be fieartily congratulated on bis- effort.
