TAUPO SEASON OPENS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUPO, Last Night. The Taupo Golf Club held its oifieial opening of the 1937 season yesterday when perfeet weather prevailed and there was a large attendance of enthusiasts. Sir Harry Lauder and Miss Greta Lauder were the guests of the club .,and after the president 's openiDg remarks Sir Harry addresscd tha gathering. He expressed pleasure at being invited to be present, and after giving souiid advico to players on how to improve their game he drove the first ball of the season amid applausc. Afternoon tea provided by the president, Mr T. A. Heath, and Mrs Heath, added greatly to the suecess of- the afternoon, and the auspicious opening augurs well for the future of the club. The layout of the course has been altered, and the links have been improved and' mad 6 more attractive, with the result that there is every likelihood of an increased membership and a very successful season. A mixed Canadian foursome haudicap was played and reeulted in a win for Miss Errington and Mr 8. Wilson, with Mrs Moon and Mr Rarneka runners-up. At the close of the afternoon a putting competition attracted thirty-one entries, the ladies ' section being won by Mrs Moon after a play-offi with Mrs Blair. Mr 8. Wilson was the winner of the men 's competition after a play-off with Messm Quarrie, Kameka and HurtiRy.
