MARAETOTARA—WAIMARAMA
The April meeting of the Maraeto-tara-Waimarama Women 's Institute was held at Mrs Stewart 's home, Mrs Elliott presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors. After the Institute song had been sung Mrs Elliott welcomed the visitors and then the 1 usual business was attended to and two delegates, Mrs Elliott and Mrs Gijray were nominated to attend the annual meeting of the Northern Hawke's Bay Federation of Women '& Institutes. Mrs Elliott then introduced Mrs Curzon, president of the Lockington-cum-Hemington Institute in England, who gave a most interesting short talk on the work of her institute. This was followed by the readihg of the play ''The Lady of the Lamp ' ' by the New Zealand author, Regihafd Berkeley, by Mrs J. B. Campbell, the reading of which was a great joy to the listeners besides giving them an idea bf the life and wOrk of Elorence Nightingale. Mrs Stewart proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Campbell to Which the members heartily responded. A delightful afternoon tea was ihen served by Mrs Gilray and Miss Edgecombe after which the roll call "How to prevent the middle-age spread" caused mufch laughter. Mrs Baker and Mrs Campbell judged the competition, "an article made from oiie yatd of print," being won by Mrs Elliott with a baby's frock, and the best dahlia by Miss I. Chambers. A very enjoyable afternoon closed with the singing of the National "Anthem.
