County Council Criticised
BELOW SANATORIUM HILL
(From
WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. ''This only gces to show the uselessness of the Waipukurau County Council," commented Mr F. A. G. Dunn, when speaking at a meeting of the Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce to-night on the condition of the lower Sanatorium road, whieh leads to Ongaonga. The chamber decided to bring the matter to the notice of Mr H. M. Christie, M.P. for the distriet. "The attitude of the Waipukurau County is 'Why should we spend money on this section of the road for the use of the Waipawa County ratepayers.' This only goes to show the usfelessness of the Waipukurau County," said Mr Dunn. "Well, if we approach Mr Russell (■chairman of the Waipukurau County Council), I am pretty sure he'll tell us to mind our own business," sai.d another member. Mr Dunn said the portion of the road referred to was that below the Sanatorium Hill, and that, as the property alongside was Government land, the Waipukurau Council received no rates from this section which was iadjoining the Waipawa County Council 's boundary. Mr Harold Roach said that he had been told recently by a man that had had to bring a rather old ear in from Ongaonga that when the car reached this short section of road the driver had thought the car would fall to bits because the road was so rough. The, president of the chamber, Mr J. Wharmby, was asked to interview Mr H. M. Christie, M.P., and lay the matter before him to see if he could suggest any solution.
