SUPREME COURT WORK

Review of Business Done Quarterly statistics taken out by tha Suprem© Court staff at Napier reveal that two persons were convicted, tliree acquitted and in one case a stay of proceedings was granted during the January — March period of this year. Five persons were sentenced during the quarter, while eight petitions were fied for dissolution of marriage in addition to eleven decrees nisi and eight decrees absoiute. Letters of administration and probates numbered 45, and 145 chattel securities and 20 memoranda of satisfaetion were also filed. Total fees collected during the quarter amounted to £543 7/-. Claims totalling £3810 were eommenced, one case before a judge alone and three before a jury. Two other cases were settled or discontinued, while decisions were given in four cases. In cases in which judgment was entered or amounts paid into court in settlement, £7912 was claimed and £2867 recovered.
