Gate Takings Down; Entries Increase

A loss, estimated at £186 9/5, Was made by tke Hawfie's Bay A. afid P. Society on its Autumn Show tbis year, due in a large measure to tke infantile paraSysis •4$. outbreak, Por tke sajne show last year the deficiency was £159 18/6. In presenting kis statement at today's meeting of the executive of the society, Mr. A. M. Retemeyer, said that the gate takings showed a decrease of approximately £54 as compared with last year, but the number of entries showed an encouraging increase. The expenditure showed a slight increase, being £751 3/4, as compared with £742 15/9 for 1936. "This result speaks very creditably for the show," commented the prosident, Mr. J. H. Absolom. "We had a gain in entries, and that shows that the show is becoming more popular." Mr. C. Douglas pointed out that, even aithough the society had made a loss on the autumn fixture, tke benefits from tke point of viow of memberskip more than eOmpensated for this loss. In connection with the autumn fixture, tke executive passed votes of thanks to tke following: — Judges, stewal'ds, donors of special ptizes, Messrs. D. Fernie, T. J. Thompson and Sons, W. Richmond, D. J. HoldOn, A. Curtin, the Press, Highland Pipe Band, Fruit-., growers' AssoeiatiOn, H.B. Jxenncl Association, Hastings Poultry Society, Hastings Jersey Glub, H.B, Braiich N.Z. Milking Shorthorn Association) police, traffic inspbetors, Messrs, G. R. Harper and F. D. Hodges,
