Wken the oommander of tke British cruiser ^ltopskire, accompanied by.the vice-Consul at Palma, called on the port admiral and Golonel Franoo, oommander of tke Air Forces at Majorca, with reference to the attack on the Gallant, the insurgent representatives explained that they had sent three land planes to attack Governinent destroyere which were reported to be operating between Valencia and Alicante. It was conceivable that they had unfortunately mistaken the Gallant for a Governinent warship. The military Governinent sent a message greatly regretting if Nationalist aireraft wefe to blame. General Franco, meanwhile, has instructed aireraft to take the greatest care to examine the identity marks on vessels before taking i hostile action^
