AN UNUSUAL CASE
Unreasonable Driving Stated to be. the first prosecution of ( its kiod in thi? district, Neville Charles Roebuck was charged before Mr. . J. Miller, S.M., at the , Hastings Magistrate's Court this morning with driving a nxotor vehicle in Karamu road without reasouable consideration to other persons lising the road. He was further charged with, being the driver of a vehicle involved in an, accident, he failed to give his name and address, when asked, to Arthur J. Bevan, the other party involved in an accident on January 7. Sergeant Mclntosh said that the defenda'nt drove round a bend on the road near Tomoana at about 40 miles an hour and occupied two-thirds of tlie widthc of the road. There was a slight collision, and when the defendant was ask'ed for his ' name and address he made no reply, but merely drove offi to Napier. ' Mr. S. W. Averill said it was admitted that the defendant could have driven round the bend without being so far over. . As , regards the other charge, coun'sel pointed out that the name was in big letters on the side of the van, and the. defendant said that he pointed to the name when asked for his name and address. •A fine of £2 on the first charge and £1 on the second, with 10/- costs in each case, was imposed.
