WAIPAWA, This Day. The officers and members of the congregation of the Waipawa Methodist Church. held a social gathering in the church to alford friends an opportunity of saying farewell to the Rev. A. O. Jones and Mrs. Jones, who leave short1 y for their new appointment in Silverdale, North Auckland, the senior circuit steward, Mr. W. S. Thackeray, being" in the chair. A short musical programme was Tendered by the following: — Song, Mr. J, R. Barker; recitation. Mr J.

song, Miss L. Bott; song, Mrs. Jones; recitation, Mrs. Walker; song, Mr. Wadman. The aceompaniments were played by Mr. S. Bott. During an interval in the programme Mr. Thackeray spoke of the esteem in which the guests of the evening were held, and in handing Mr. Jones a cheque for a substantial amount, extended the best wishes of the church for his work in the new circuit, and assured him that his success would be watched for by friends he was leaving in Waipawa. The Rev. H. J. Odell, Napier, chairman of the district, spoke of the work of Mr. Jones from the broader viewpoint of the district executive, stressing his sincerity of purpose. He reminded his hearers that the best tribute they could pay their beloved pastor was to continue faithfully to serve the church in Waipawa. Mrs. Walker, superintendent of the Sunday School, also spoke in glowing terms of Mr. Jones 's work in the town and district. Mr. Jones, replying, spoke feelingly of the happy time ho and Mrs. Jones had spent in. Waipawa, and expressed regret that the itinerary system compell him to move on to fresh fields of labour.
