RUGBY PROBLEM

Informality at EleCtion of Delegates NO PLANS FOR SEASON

(By

Telegruph-

CHRI6TCHUECH, This Day. There is no management committee for the Canterbury Bugby Union; there is no president and, in effect, there is nothing binding on the hook3 us to when the season . shall open and how it shall be controlled when it is opened. This extraordinary position, unprecedented in the history of the game, has arisen. as the result of the decision to-day to declare the annual meeting of the Union, held on March 17, null and wid and to issue fresh notices to all clubs calling a new general meeting of delegates for Wednesday, April 14. The cause leading up to this unexpected developcnent lies in an informality that crept into the election of the Albion Club's delegates for the meeting on March 17. This informality was followed by a protest from the Linwood Club. Put briefly, the Albion Club failed to conform to rule 7 of the Union 's constitution, which lays it down that delegates to the Union must be elected at- a general meeting of the club and not at a meeting of the club's- executive. The Union 's management committee decided to obtain legal opinion and, as a result of this legal opinioB, a new general meeting of all delegates has been summoned and the first gBneral meeting declared invalid.
