HASTINGS AND NAPIER NURSES PAY TRIBUTE TO SISTER GOLDSMITH
A very enjoyable function took place yesterday afternoon in Blythes tearooms, when members of the New Zealand Nurses' christian XJnion (Hastings and Napier groups) combined with the eouncil of the Napier branch of the New Zealand Eegi'stered Nurses"' Association to honour a popular and valued colleague, Sister Goldsmith, who is shortly to ' be married to Mr George Nelson, Havelock North. Mrs A. McBeath and Miss L. M, Oroft were joint hostesses, receiving guests in the lounge, where a happy lialf-hour waa spent prior to tea« Mrs McBeath wore a smart frock in two-tone beiee relieved with brown.
a three-quarter brown coat and felt. hat flnished with fancy beige mount. Miss Oroft 's lemon silk tweed costume was worn with a tete-de-nqgre blouse flgure^ and spotted in lemon; her hat was of straw trimmed with a cire bow. Sister Goldsmith wore a model ensemble in dark. navy spotted in white and trimmed with white collar and gardenia coat spray, Yery smart was her navy hat flnished with a straw edge. On arrival she waa presented by Mrs Lockie, Hastings, on .behaif of the N.Z.R.N.A., with a handsome bouquet of gerberais, pompom dahlias, freesias and miniature zinnias backed with red Japanese leaves and having gold ribbon streamers. v" A delicious tea was served, the tables being screened ofE from the main room. Floral decorations comprised autumn tonings in dwarf French marigolds, taconia, pom-pom dahlias and ciusters of berries attractively arrang-
ed in the new coloured glass posy bowls. ^ At the conclusion of tea, Mrs McBeath made a cvery fine speecfi eulogis■4ng the work of Sister Goldsmith in the nursing community. "We Fave met, she said, on a most auspicipus occasion to honour Sister Goldsmith and to wish hqr every happiness in the future." On behaif of the N.Z.N.C.U, she asked Sister Goldsmith to accept a gift with their combined goqd wishes. A handsome petit point qvening bag was then revealed, and Sistbr Goldsmith feelingly spoke of the great pleasure it gave her to see all her friends gathered at tea. She thanked all for their kind wisheis, the bouquet and bag and, above all, qne valued and appreeiated their wonderful friendship. There were present: Mqsdames A. McBeath, J. Murdoch, R.
