Two Waipukurau Railwaymen

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. A large number of railway men and friends met at the railway social room to bid farewell to Messrs S. Caskie and J. ("Bumper") Foster. The' former is retiring on superannuation, while the latter is promoted to the position of guard at Ohakune Junction. Mr H. Hepburn presided. Mr F- Fryer made a presentation to Mr Caskie of a leather suit-case, and a hand-bag for Mrs Caskie, and Mr L Mathie was called upon to make the presentation of an electrlo kettle to Mrs Foster and an attache case for Miss Foster. Mrs Caskie and Foster guita-bly responded. Other speakers were: Messrs McLag gen, Halford, Seabrook, Reid, Davidson, Manning, Brooker, Eustace, Gambie, Townsend, Grainger, de Clifford, Marfell and Heydon. Items were given by the following:— Messrs Seabrook (songs), Heydon (song), Brooker (song and humour), Patterson (yodelling), Halford and Marfell (humour), and a speciai encore number by Mr Foster, "And "When" I Die." Three hearty cheers for the giiesta of the evening and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought a pleasant evening to a close.
