WAIPAWA LADIES' GOLF
Successful Past Season. (From Our Own Correspondent). WAIPAWA, This Day. There was a very fair attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Waipawa Ladies' Golf Club, held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening. The election 65 officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:— Patroness, Mrs. L. H. McHardy; president, Mrs. J. Clark; vice-presidents, Mesdames H. M. Rathbone and N. J. McKay; captain, Miss A. Britten; vicecaptain, Mrs. Edwards; secretary, Miss d'Emden; committee, Mesdames Angus, Woods, Bishop, Strang, H. S. Rathbone, Misses Beek, Witherow and J. Rathbone. A hearty vote of thanks to Miss Witherow for her services as captain was carried by acclamation. It was decided that the club should provide tea, sugar, niilk, and biscuits fcr afternoon tea, each cnember to pay 3d, and Mrs. Edwards to be in charge. It was also resolved that men's matches be catered for by the ladies as usual. Miss d'Emden suggested that to save the collection of the L.G.U. levy it be added to the ladies ' subscriptions, making a total of £1 12/-. A discussion then took place on the question of ladies' mateh day, but on the voice of the meeting it was left to Saturday as previously arranged. At the elose of the meeting an honorariuai of £2 2/- was voted to the secretary from the men's committee in recognition of her services. Annual Report. The following report on the season 's operations was presented: — During the 1936 season our membership was nearly doubled, and even with a reduced par many handicaps were gained or reduced. The championship was won by Mrs. Woods, the silver medal by Mrs. Strang, and the bronze rqedal by Mrs. Roy Britten. We offer congratulations to these ladies. Trophies to be played for dunng the season were presented by Mesdames Clark, McKay, H. M. Rathbone, Woods, Strang, Bishop, Armstrong, Mr Shackleford and Misses Beck, Rathbone, Witherow and d'Emden. The thanks of the club are due to these donors. Matches were played against several of the local clubs, some separate and some in conjunction with the oien'a matches, and all were very enjoyable. An open tournament was held ou Saturday, September 20, some 53 ladies taking part. Mrs. Miller, of Hastings, won the Hunter rose bowl, Mrs. Strang and Mrs. Ridge tied for the Otane vase, Mrs. Strang wiuning on the count back. There were several of these ties in this touruey, and prizes for the runner-up would meet these cases in a future tournament. We have heartily to thank the Press i'or publication of results, Mr. Strang for the use of his office, and cooimittee ladies in wliose homes meetings have been held. We have also to thank Mrs. Strang and Mr. Watts, who were of great assistance in measuring the course and helping in the alteration of our par. Congestion on the links has been a problem this season, but with oxtra lioles suggested for the coming season this should be overcome. Thanks are due to all lady members who assisted on mateh and tournament days. The balance sheet shows a credit balance of £9 d/-. , The committee extends best wishcs for the coming season and liopes it will bo as successful as tlie last..
