£100 HONORARIUM
Waipawa Hospital Board Chairman TRIBUTES TO SERVICES At the monthly meeting of the Waipawa Hospital Board yesterday, Mr T. P. Hunter said that as this was the last meeting of the board before the end of the financial year he wished to bring up the question of the chairman 's honorarium. "We all know that for some years the chairman has refused to accept the full amount of the honorarium to which he is entitled, and I think, in view of the fact that he goes to considerable trouble and devotes such a great deal of time to the Hospital Board business, he should accept an increase," said Mr Hunter. Mr p. Eddy said he was pleased that Mr Hunter had brought this matter up because he (Mr Eddy) was in a position to know something of the tremendous amount of time put in by Mr Rathbone on the board's business. "I am sure that no other local body chairman puts in more time than Mr Rathbone, and I should like to endorse the remarks made by the chairman of the Patangata County Council," said Mr Glenny. A motion by Mr Hunter, seconded by Mr Glenny, that the chairman 's honorarium be increased to £100 was carried unanimously. D Mr Rathbone, in reply, said: I thank you for your kind words regarding the carrying out of the board's work during the latet twelve years. In the last two and a half years the work has increased by over 100 per cent., and I felt that even if it meanti neglecting my own work, as chairman of the [ board it was my duty to attend to the work of the board, and this I have done. As I said earlier in the meeting, this year is the first time that we haVe had to ask for authority for an overdraft, and that has been due to circumstances which neither I nor any other man could control."
