BAY VIEW MEETING

The Bay Yiew Women 's Institute held its annual meeting in King Georg'e Hall, when Mrs. A. McHardy presided over a very fair attendance of members. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute song. Officers for the com'ing year were' eleeted as follows: — President, Mrs. Olsen; vice-presidents, Mrs. A. McHardy, Miss Nicholls; secretary, Mrs. c. B. Wilson; treasurer, Mrs. Walden; eommittee, Mesdames Pstorson, Les

Saniland, Hard. senr., Rogers, Mandy and S. Hard. A competition for one-egg chocolate caks resulted: Mrs.' Olsen 1, Mrs. HorUe 2, Mrs. S. Hard 3. The miniature silver cup for best bloom in the garden was won by Mrs. W. E. Saunders, with Mrs. Rogers secoud, and Mrs. A. McHardy third. The secretary read the annual report, which was a very full oue and reviewed, a busy year. The treasurer gave a detailed account of the financial position, which showed a sound financial basis. Mrs. A. McHardy thanked. the retiring officers and eommittee, also the members for their co-operation during the year. Special thanks was accorded the auditor and the Press. Mrs. Horne expressed the committee's thanks to Mrs. A. McHardy for her untiring efforts to make the Institute a success during her two years as president. During the afternoon Mesdames Olsen and Wilson presented beautiful posies to the retiring president, secretary and treasurer. Mrs. A McHardy, on behalf of the eommittee, presented Mrs. Peterson with a bronze vase as a token of appreciation' for her services as treasurer for the past three years. Miss Nicholls read a very interesting essay on the early history of Petane, which she has prepared for the Historieal Society. It has been decided to make a baby's layette for this year's eommittee work. A gardening circle has been formed, the first meeting to be held at Mrs. A. McHardy 's on the first Wednesday in ApriL A good collection of jam was made for the Hawke's Bay Children's Home. Afternoon tea was served by the retiring eommittee.
