MARAETOTARA-WAIMARAMA

The annual general meeting of the Marattotara-Waimarama Women 's Institute was held on Thursday at the home of Mrs. Thom, who presided, and the meeting opened with the aspiration. An air-mail letter was read from the Effingham Institute in England, offering hospitality to any members going Home this year. The secretary gave a general report on the years' work and also read the statement of accounts. Mrs. Thom. sthen gave her report and noted that Mrs. Elliott had not missed a meeting for three and a half years. It was explained to the members that Mrs. Riggir was being made a Foundation Member by all the members of the Northern H.B. Federation of Women 's Institutes. Tho retiring president and secretary were then presented with charming > bouquets and thanked for their services in the past. The roll call ''My Favourite Film and Why," brought forth excellent responses. After this subscriptions were paid and the voting took place, the new eommittee being Mrs. Elliott (president), Miss Chambers, Mrs. Stewart. Miss Jillies, Mr?. King, Miss P. Hart, Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Frank Field. The result of the potato-growing competition was Mrs. Riggir 1 with the grand total of 9851bs., worthy of an Institute spoon, and Mrs. Robson 321bs. Other competitions were: Best jar of bottled fruit, Mrs. Elliott 1, Mrs. Tbora 2; afternoon with Kate, Mrs Riggir 1, Mrs King 2. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Thoin and Miss Palmer. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.
