HAUMOANA MEETING

The Haumoana Women 's Institute i held their monthly meeting on Thurs- , day, Mrs". W. Neilson presiding. The annual report aud balance sheet were • presented and very very satisfactory. Mrs; Cranston, from the Chatham Islands, d'escribed the life of the island inhabitants and in an interesting talk told of the jLndustries of the people — sheep and cattle farming and blue cod fishing. ■ The following were eleeted officers for the year: — Mrs. McCarthy, president; Mesdames W. Neilson and Agnew vice-presidents; C. J. Baker, secretary; Castles, treasurer; C. J. H. Baker, J. Glenny, Keong, Mudway, Manning, Rathie, Searle, Thorburn and Miss Mudgway. The competition for the month, a monogram worked on a handkerchief, was won by Miss Hawthorne with Miss Langdon second and third. The members decided to alter the day of the meeting from the second Thursday to the fourth Thursday in the month. Mrs. W. Neilson proposed a vote of thanks to the tellers, Mesdames Pradshaw and Pitt, who also judged the competition, and to the afternoon 's speaker, Mrs. Cranston. Afternoon tea was enjoyed by everyone and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
