RISE OF AURIE'S STAR
- Generous Lessee . Eigjbteen xuonths ago Aurie's Star was a rather despised young horse, running in a paddock at Hamley Bridge ,(S.A.), says a Melbourne- writer. He was taken on lease only as an afterthougkt by his lessee, Mr W. Badman. but he has now risen to famo as a winner of the Oakleigh Plate and the Newmarket HandicapAurie's Star was bred by Mr E. D. Miupliy, of Hamley Bridge, and 18 months ago Mr jVIurphy's stud was visited by Mr Badman and his trainer, Mr J. J. Doyle, for the purpose of ieasing a horse. Mr Badman did not like Aurie's Star, his preference was for another young horse, now registered as •lloyal Fortune, and intended to leave Aurie's Star, but Doyle advised him to take both horses- Mr Badman agreed, and certainly he has now no reason to regret having taken Doyle's advice. Four months Jaler Aurie's Star won his first race. Now he has won uine, and nearly 1MOOO in prizes. Although Mr Badman has an option of purchase over Aurie's Star at a comparatively low figure, he has not >et exercised it, although t-o have done so would have meant a considerable saving. Alr Badman,5 however, believes that a mau who breeds a good horse should receive a good price for him, and rather than buy the horse cheaply before he won the Oakleigh Plate and the Newmarket Handicap, he ailovjpd Mr Murpby, as lessor, to partieipate in the nch prizes. Doyle has prepared many winners, but the Newmarket has been liis most important win, and he thoroughly deserved his suecess.
