WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Gathering at Clive The annual meeting of the Clive Women's Institute was held in the supper room of the Clive Public Hall on Tuesday evening when Mrs Frank Merritt presided over a very good attendance. A new member was proposed. After the singing of the Institute Song the correspondence was dealt with and it was decided to take a petition round the district re electric lighting. After the adoption of the report and balance sheet the election took place. Mrs Fenwick spoke in eulogistic terms of the work done by Mrs Frank Merritt during the pa>st year and regretted that Mrs Merritt desired to resign from the position of president. A posy was presented to her by Mrs Powell, which was accompanied by musical honours. A pre:sentation was also made to the retiring secretary, Miss Irene Long. They both suitably replied. The result of the election was: Committee, Mesdames Gregory, Cushing, Fenwick, Prince, Powell, Bliss, Dyett, Coupe, Pigott and Miss Smyth; president, Mrs Nicholas; vicejpresident,' Mrs Gregory; secretary, Mrs Frank Merritt; treasurer, Miss Mounsey. Mr Jas Hellyer was reappointed honorary auditor and a vote of thanks was passed for his pa'st services. A vote of thanks was also passed to Miss Fenwick, who did the typewriting of various papers throughout the year. The points prizes for the handicraft competition were then presented to Mrs McCabe, who was first, with Mrs Pigott second and Mrs J. Smythe third. The retiring committee were the hostesses for the evening.
