HARVEST FESTIVAL

Methodist Church Serrices . The harvest serviees in conneetion with the Hastings Methodist Church were held last Sunday, the Church being tastefully decorated with a eplendid array of harvest gifts. Both serviees were condueted by the Rev. R. B. Gosnell, whose aadress at the morning service was on "Harvest Field Lessons." The choir rendered the anthem, "Ye Shall Dwell in the Land," an'd an appropriate duet wan sung by the Misses Steel and J. Symonds. The evening service was devoted to the rendering by the choir of Ihe sacred cantata, "The Rolling Seasons." under the direction of Mr D. Soitherland. The choir gave a fine interpretation of this harvest cantata. Miss E. Napier officiated at the organ, and thc soloists were Mesdames Lee and t'ameron, Misses M. Cunnold and J. Symonds, Messrs H. File (tenor) and H. Liuyartl (baritone). The harvest functions were continucd on Monday afternoon and evening, when a harvest social was held in tho Sunday school hall, presided over by Mr E. Bott, the cireuit steward. After devotional exercises, a short programme of items was rendered, those taking part being Mrs Warrington, Misses M Cunnold and J. Symonds, Messrs D. Sutherland and J. Warren. Welcome and congratulatory speeekus to Mr H. R. French were delivered by Mr W. E. Bate (trustees), Mr A. H. Tunnicliffe (loeal preachers), Mr Luke (Sunday School)., Mr E. E. Bott (cireuit) and by the Rev. R. B. Gosnell, district secretary, to which Mr French responded aud gave an interesting ad uress conceruing the recent conference in Auckland at which he represented the Hastings c'fcuit. After the eleetion of certain officials, Mr Gosnell proposed a hearty vote of thanks to all who had assisted, thc function closing with the Benediction, after which supper was provided by the ladies of the guild.
