NEW; PLYMOUTH, Last Nigbt, An escape from an escort was made at Stratford railway statipn to-nigbt by William J osepb Fox, wbo was being taken to Waikare prison. Fox and another were being taken nortb on tbe New Plymouth-Auckland night express and made bis dash for liberty by diving tbrougb an open window wben the train reacbed tbe crowded Stratford station after eight o 'clock. Fox, at a recent session of tbe Supreme Court at New Plymouth, was sentenced to two years' imprisonmeut and two years' reformatiye detention for aggravated assault on two police officers and for bigamy. He figured in an incident in wbicb a rifle wa3 fired wben two police officers attempted. to interview bim on a f'arm at Aotuhia, near Whangamomona, on the Stratford main trunk railway. Tbe Stratford station is in tbe centre of tbe town and Fox disappeared tbrougb the crowd. He is wearing eivilian clotbes. A seareh is being /aade by tbe police.
