New Method of Treatment at Maidstone N.Z. CHAPLAIN'S VISIT , (Received 9, 11.20 -a.m.) SYDNEY, Marcb 9. Tbe Rev. G. E. Morton, cbaplain at Mount Eden prison, wbo arrived at Sydney from London, said tbat a great advance bad been made recently in tbe treatment of prisoners in Britain. At Maidstone gaol, wbere tbere are many long-sentence men, the buildings outwardly resembled a hospital. No armed guard was visible and tbe grounda were laid out in beautiful gardens. He saw prisoners wearing sbirts, collars and ties, and many were engaged in printing and otber skilled trades.
