Attractive Programme For March 20 Visitors from outside Hawke' s Bay sometimes ask, where is Puketapu 1 But to Hawke' s Bay people Puketapu is well known as being the locality of what is generally conceded to be the sports meeting of the year." .The title is not undeserved. The Puketapu Sports Club is a partieularly progressive body, which has set out to make its sports meetings second to none in the provinee. and has succeeded in drawing competitors and spectators from all parts of Hawke 's Bay and even beyond. For this year's sports meetings which will be held on Saturday, March 20, the Saturday afjer the Autumn Show, axemen from all parts of the North Island are expected to compete and the best jumpers in the island are also likely to be seen out in the horse events. The programme is a very varied one, • and comprises 100, 2x0, 440 and 880 yards running events for i men, 75, 100 yards and 440 yards relay for women, and a five miles run for harriers. A high jump and hop, step and jump are also included. There are three cycling events, one-half, one and two miles. Highland dancing is catered for by 14 events for boys and girls, 9 to 17 years. Open and maiden heading and yarding are the sheep-dog trials. For the. horse events challenge cups are olfered for the open, women's and pony events, while the . consolation jump, four novelty events and polo ball event add to the attractiveness of this section. The axemen's section has been added to, and now includes 14-inch single and 14-inch double-handed savving, i2inch and 14-inch standing and 14-inch underhand, chop. Entries for the axemen's events close with the honoiary secretary. Mr F. S. In the evening the grand sports ball will be held, commencing at 7-30. All former patrons are sui'e to be there. With fine weather Puketapu should add to its long list of successes - oa March 20. 1
