PATOKA A RENDEZVOUS WHEN JOLLY WOOLSHED DANCE HELD THERE
On Febiuary 26 a muek uppreclated dance was held under the capable organisation ct Ihe Misses Walker, Peda!a and Lean in Mr. P. Halliday's woolshed Patoka, residents journeyed from Puketitiri, Hawkestone, Hendley, .Waihou and Rissington to partake of the eveun.g s cntenamment. No cll'ort had been spared in attiactive decorating for the event; the woolshed looking particularly gay in niulticoloured strcamers attached to a iurge cauopy in thc centre. The walls and corrie rs of the room were screened with native ferns and shrubs, giving a goneral toning and added etfect. The Butrs Orcliestra, Napier, was in attendance, and played popular dance music, liavijig to respond to many encores. rl'ne extras were supplied by Mr. W. Simpson. During the evening many novelty items were featured, the winners of these events being: Monte Carlos, Mr. L. Butler and Miss J. McLean; Mr. T. Lawrence and Miss H. McBurnie. Spot dance: Mr. 0. Williams and Miss P. Walker. Balloon dance, Mr. J. Pedeisen and Miss Walker. Statue waltz, Mr. P. Begg and Miss A. Lean. A. guesaixig competition conducted during" tne evening was won by Mr._ H. Pedersen, of Puketitiri. The generous action of the donor, Mr. M. Hunn deserves commendation. An aitogether pleasant function was ! coneiuded in the early hours with a general renderiug of ''Auid Lang tiyne. '• Among those noticed present were: — Mesdames Mackey, Peasey, Walker, Cockburn, Lean, Misses Stapies, Peddie (2), Youren, Lean, Mackey (2), Scott, ' Langley, McLean (2), McBurnie (2), Halliday, Priee, Walker (2), Hayes, Dewes, M.essrs. Williams (o), Ivlcnean, Halliday (2), Himpson (2), Mackey, Butler, McBurney, Doherty, Dunn, Peedersen (2), Hugnes, Begg., Hovvell, Lawrence, Walker, Paul, Hug'hes, O'Dnscoil, Ballantyne, Peasey, Turner, Saunders; Mellish, Hayes, Gaston.
