"Diamond Jim" "Diamond Jim," the colourful, romatic screen biograpliy of James Buchanan Brady, the man who made the ,gay nineties $ay, screens at the Waipukurau Theatre to-night, Friday at 8 p.m. This Universal production brings to Stardom Edward Arnold, noted for his work in "Sadie ■ McKee", "Million Dollar ltansom," and "Ilichlieu," as "Diamond Jim." The life of the man who wore 2,000,000 dollar s worthi of diamonds, who spent 100,000 dollars on a singje party, who was the confidant of Lillian Russell and the Dolly Sisters — of a statesman and bank presidents — is said to be one of the most fascinat-ing in American history. It is based on the best-selley by Parker Morell, brought to the screen by Preston Sturges, directed by Edward Sutherland, and produced by Edmund Grainger. In the cast, in addition to Arnold, who actually looks like the man he portrays, are beautiful Jean Arthur, Binnie Barnes as Lillian Russell, Cesar Romero, Hugh O'Connell, George Sidney, Bill Demarest, Eric Blore, Robert McWade and Fred Kelsey. Miss Barnes gives her interpretation of the world famous beauty, the toast of the "nineties", the incomparable Lillian Russell. The supporting items include "Trick Golf", and a musical cartoon in colour. Coming Tuesday. Franchot Tone and Madge Evans will be seen in the unusual adventure ^'ory TExclusive Story," which will be presented on Tuesday next. This film has an excellent supporting cast, including J. Farrell McDonald.
