TRADES HAU. PROPOSAL
Effort to Raise Funds CARNIVAL ON SATURDAY The erection of a trades hall in Hastings is the objective of a number of the Hastings trades union organisations, and a central body has been set up for this purpose. A site has already been obtained at the corner of Hastings and Queen streets, and, when sufficient funds are -available, it is proposed to tnrke a start with its construction. As a means of enabling these funds to be raised, the Trades Hall Building Committee has organised a queen carnival, which is to commence on Saturday next, March 6. The net realisations from the carnival will go towards the erection of this building, and the organisers are hopeful of sufficient support being forthcoming to enable a building in keeping with the many other fine properties in town to be constructed. Saturday 's carnival opening is to be staged in Nelson Park. At 7.30 p.m. the carnival proeession will leave the Nelson street corner, headed by the Hastings Oitizens' Band. The Ratana Maori Band will also be in tbe proeession. At Nelson Parlc an exeellent programme has been arranged for the entertainment of the public, ineluding novelty items and poi danees, halcas and Maori items by the Ratana and Hastings Maoris. Dancing on the green will be to the music of the Hastings Citizens' Band. Five queen candidates have been nominated, and they will represent the Maori, Whakatu, Tomoana, general labourers and Labour organisations.
