Lord Galway at East Coast MAORI FARMERS' AWARDS

GISBORNE, This Day. • The unique experience of being landed in a surfboat was accorded the Gov-ernor-General, Lord Galway, yesterday, when he left the Government steamer Matai at Hick's Bay and proceeded to Tikitiki to present the Bledisloe Cup for the most efficient Maori farmer to Mr Henry Dewes and the award for the runner-up to Mr Robert Clarke. The vice-regal party was welcomed in typical native mariri er by a large gatheriug this being his first visit to the district. Replying to speeches, his Excellency spoke of the favourable impression obtained of the district through which they passed. He congratulated the winner of the trophy and eaid that the result of the competition showed that Maori farmers could reach a higb standard. At the conclusion of the proceedings at Tikitiki th© party proceeded to Te Puia where much interest was shown in the hot springis and natui'al gas supply. They later re-embarked on the Matai at Tokomaru Bay. Lord Galway was aceompanied by Lady Galway and their four children.
