CARNIVAL WEEK FOR PLUNKET SOCIETY AT WAIPUKURAU
Oarmval week, ©rganised by the committee of the Waipukurau branch of the Plunket Society to raise funds, opened on Tliursday. afternoon with an entertaining musical aiternoon, arranged by Mrs J. L. Braithwaite and held at her home in Porangahau road, Waipukurau. The drawing room, suitably arranged and decorated with big knots of giadioli and dahlias, made an ideal settihg for the following enjoyable programme presented by- local artists. — Pianoforte solos, Misses Airini Hutt, Joyce Wharmby and Kitty ltiddell jvocal solos, Mesdames P. A. Riddell, F. R. McWilhams, W. J. Gray and J. L. Braithwaite; much appreciated recitations w.er© given by Bennie Kaymond and Shona Bell. A very amusing musical competition was won by Mrs Gerald "Wilson and Mrs Peterson. . . During an intervai an adjournment was made to the dining-room, where a delicious afternoon tea .was served. The oval table, spread with a linen and lace cloth, -was adorned with flat bowls of scarlet geraniuxns. At the conclusion of the afternoon's entertainment Mrs Braithwaite thanked the performers and Mrs J. H. Walker (acting president) apologised fo-r the absence of Mrs J. Hobson and, .on behalf of the Plunket committee, • thanked Mrs Braithwaite fot organising such a delightful function. On arrival the guests were welcomed *by Mrs Braithwaite, who was wearing a model gown in iblack georgette with deep yok©- and sleeves of black lace over flesh pink, relieved with a scarlet shoulder sjpray.
