CHEISTCHUECH, Last Night. The prevalence of fire blight in Christchurch orchards, particularly the "back garden ' ' orchards, this year, was referred to by Mr E. A. Stead, chairman of the Christchurch fire blight committee, in commenting at a meeting of the Canterbury Stone Fruit and Tomato GrowerS' Association on the work done by the committee 's inspectors. In the early part of the season the blight had been very noticeable, said Mr Stead, but the good work of the fire blight inspectors had resulted in more than 4000 trees being trimmed back, the infected limbs cut out, or cut down altogether. The fire blight committee was doing exceptionally good work, and its inspectors were. also dealing with silver blight which affected stone fruit growers more than fire blight.
