Massed Thousands Will Hear Abbey Services

LONDON, Jan. 21. Massed thousands lining important parts of the route of the Coronation Day processions will hear all that takes place within Westminster Abbey, as well as elsewbere on the route. Loud-speakers are to be installed by the Office of Works to relay tho B.B.C. broadcast in Hyde Park, Constitution Hill, the Mall and Parliament-squai'e. Full Office of Works plans for Coronation Day were issued last night. These are the main points: — In the Abbey, stands for 7,700 guests are to be provided, and temporary annexe built to accommodate processions assembling outside the West door. From the West door the processional way will be covered with 17ft. wide blue carpet, 173 feet long and made in one piece without seam. In all, more than 1900 square yards of carpet will be used in the Abbey, and cbairs for peers, peeresses and distinguished guests will be covered in 2,500 yards of velour and 18,000 yards of braid. Street decoration schemes will include decorated masts and floral treatments of Government buildings. Three miles of stands witb 27 miles of seats, will absorb nearly 300 miles oi steel tubing. Four hundred men are direetly engaged in building the stands, and hundreds of others are preparing the timber Flood-lighting will be the most ex- : tensivo ever attempted in this country. Campa will be provided fpr troops in Kensington Gardens, Regcnt's Park and Hampton Court Park, the lastnamcd for Indian troops. lt was officially announeed yesterday that the Free Chuiches will not takc nsri in the Coronation service, but six representatives will have places in the i sanctuary of the Abbe.v. i
