(By Telegraph-

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Recent repprts of Jargp fishing bags at Lake Taupo were rei'erred tq this evening by Mr P. Withers, of Wellington,, who retqrned this week after three weelcs' fishing in the Taupo qren, botlr in the lake and river, "J have been going up every year for the past 20 years," Mr Withers said, "and thq .fishing has been getting steadily worse year after year. "Where do all these stories about big bags come from, and whefe are the men who get them?" asked Mr Withers. "That is what I want to. know. It is not right that stories of this kind should be eireulated when the fact is that the Taupo fishing is worse than ever it was. ' "The other day at Waitahanui' five rods fished from 5 a.m. until noon. They got one slab among the lot of them. We went to the western side, where the best fish are su^poeed to be. We trolled with the fly and trolled with the spoon, and we fished with the fly. We got none. "I talked about it to a launoh owner I knqw well, and he suggested we had gone to the wrong places. He said he was going put that night with a rangcr, I saw l}im again -after ha and the ranger had got hack. They got no fish. "•For the fortnight j fished t|ie river," Mr Withers coneluded. "I got seven, and was so disgnsled that I left and went to Rotorua. I did not fish there. "
