BORN ON MONTMORENCY
Palmerston North Woman Recent references to the fate bf the Montihbrency, which caught on fire ik the Napier roadstead on Mareh. 27* 1867, has attracted the attention of oue of the passengers who came to New Zeaiand dn the last trip of this vessei. Writing to the Hef ald-Tribune, Mrs M. Vincent, of Cburch street, Palmerston North, says that she-was born oh the vCssel and was hamed after it. In a news item that appearbd in ihe Herald-Tribune on February 4 it was stated that attempts were being made to recover eouvenirs from the hulk of the Mqntmorency* which lies near the Tnner Harbour, and it was also stated that Mrs Montgomery, of Battery xoad, Napier, was one of the passengers on this trip. "I hear that Mrs Montgoinefy claims that she is the only survivor of the Montmof ency, ' ' writes Mrs Vincent in referring to this artiele. "I was horn on ihe vessei; also, I have a sister. living in Hastings, Mrs J. Wyatt, of 309 Queen street* Hastings." Mrs Vincent was forme'ly a Miss M. Hebden.
