School Excursion. The annual school excursion from Norsewood to Napier has been arranged to take plUce on Wednesday, February 24. The school committee arranged the excursion this month, as with the re-opening of the schools next month, no further loss of time is desired. The excursion embraees the usual districts and tickets for Norsewood may be had from Mr Stretton. Harvest Festival. The Norsewood Methodist Church held its annual harvest festival service on Sunday. The church was decora.ted with a variety of speeimens of fruit and vegetables, and sheaves of wheat and greenery made a fine showing. The Rev.* Mr Silvester, Dannevirke, was the preacher. There was bright singmg and two instrumental selections. Otane School.

The monthly meeting of the Otane School Committee was presided over by Mr A. E. Black. The headmaster, who was present, reported that the nverage attendance for tho last term of the year was 154, and the roll number 174*. The increase in the roll last year r&ised the school a sub-grade, enabling it to an additional assistant. Miss R. Martin has been appointed to this position. The secretary was instrueted to make enquiries about the annual excursion to Napier. Rain on Saturday delayed tbe loading o£ the Fordsdale at Waikokopu, and the vessel did not get away on Saturday night as expected. A cold •spell came on Monday when loading was continued, and in the afternoon it was so cold that beaters and fires were resorted to. Mr G. F- C Ashdowne secured on Thdrsday in Wairoa, the sum of £25 on behali for the fund of the New Zealand 'Institute for the Blind. Further Wairoa stock saies will be attended fbi the same purpose, and this, with gifts of stock promised, should bring Wairoa's contribution up to a respectable total.
