Mr W. Woods, an 0]d Otane Resident

OTANE, Last Night. Mr. W. Woods, a well-known Otane resident, passed away at Wellington yesterday in his 74th year. He was born in Otane and had spent his whole life in the district. Mr. Woods, who had not enjoyed good health in recent weeks, was in Wellington for specialist treatment, but was making good progress after a serious operation. He suddenly collapsed and passed away. The late Mr. Woods was born 74 years ago in Otane, where he had spent the whole of his life. As a youth he regan work on the late Mr. Douglas 's, Te Mahanga, Station, later transferring to the Te Aute station where he worked for varying periods until he retired to live on his own property on the Great North road, Otane. He was a I great lover of animals and made a ' special study of their habits and ailments. The knowledge he gleaned enabled him over a long period of years to save the lives of enany valuable animals. His adviee ana services were much sought after and were always tfreely given. • ... Mr. Woods was one of the olaest members of Abercorn Masonic Lodge, Waipawa. Although taking no active part in public affairs, the lato Mr Woods by his bright and genial. d,isposition won for himself many friends. Mr. Woods leaves three danghters — Mrs. White (Auckland), Mrs. Vaughan and Mrs. H. Price (Waipawa), and several grandchildren. His wife also survives him. The funeral takes place at the Otane Cecnetery on Wednesday afternoon.
