OBITUARY

. MR GERALD S. ALLOM 4 ~ Another link with the early organised colonisation of New Zealand has been severed with the death last week of Mr Gerald Sanderson Allom, of Havelock North, a son of the late Mr Albert James Allom, who arrived in New Zealand in 1842 as a member of a party of public-school boys under Mr WilliamS and was closely associated with . Mr Edward Gibbon Wakefield both in the colony and abroad. The late Mr G. S. Allom was born on Great Barrier Island and was educated at Nelson College. He came to Hawke's Bay nearly half a century ago to become manager for Mr, N. Kettle, of Waipawa Station, near Dannevirke. Later ho was engaged in farming pursuits in various parts of the province ui\til failing health compelled his retirement to Havelock North a few years ago, Of a quiet and uDaissuming naturc, the late Mr Allom will be remembered and missed by his many friends in the farming community, for he took a keen and active interest in all phases of agricultural and pastoral life. He was a member of many years' standing of the Hawke's Bay A.1 and P. Society. Besides a widow and a daughter, resident in Hastings, there are left three brothers, one resident in Auckland and two in Australia. A fourth brothe'' was killed at Gallipoli. y
